Cadmium Oxide (CdO) sputtering targets are primarily utilized in the deposition of thin films for advanced research in 

functional materials. One significant area is the development of Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs). 

CdO films exhibit a combination of high optical transparency in the visible spectrum and high electrical conductivity, 

making them a subject of study for applications such as transparent electrodes for solar cells, flat-panel displays, 

and phototransistors.

In the field of Optoelectronics, CdO's properties as a direct bandgap semiconductor are exploited. Research focuses 

on its use in active optoelectronic devices, where doping with elements like indium or tin is commonly investigated 

to engineer its bandgap and enhance carrier mobility for improved device performance.

Another active research domain is Gas Sensing. The semiconductor properties of CdO thin films are sensitive to 

the surrounding atmospheric environment. This makes them suitable candidates for scientific exploration in 

resistive-based gas sensors, where their electrical response to various gases is characterized.

Furthermore, CdO is studied in Photovoltaics and Heterojunction Devices. 

Researchers fabricate p-n heterojunctions, for instance by depositing CdO on p-type silicon, 

to study the resulting photovoltaic effect. This work is fundamental to exploring alternative 

materials and structures for next-generation thin-film solar cells.
