Ba₀.₅Sr₀.₅TiO₃ (BST) is a versatile perovskite material with exceptional dielectric, ferroelectric, and pyroelectric properties. 

Its tunable characteristics make it highly valuable in advanced technologies. Below are key application areas supported by international research:


1. Tunable Microwave Devices

BST-based ceramics and thin films exhibit excellent dielectric tunability under electric fields, making them ideal for 

frequency-agile microwave components such as phase shifters, filters, and resonators. Composite ceramics 

(e.g., BST-BaMg₆Ti₆O₁₉) achieve low dielectric loss (~0.002) and tunability up to 13.4% at 30 kV/cm, 

enabling high-performance tunable microwave systems


2. Pyroelectric Temperature Sensors

BST thin films demonstrate high pyroelectric sensitivity (8×10⁻⁵ C·m⁻²·K⁻¹) for precise temperature detection. 

Annealed films integrated with amplifier circuits show stable performance in a wide range (30–100°C), 

making them suitable for satellite thermal management and aerospace applications


3. High-Density Energy Storage

BST ceramics synthesized via sol-gel methods achieve a dielectric constant of ~1,164 and low leakage current 

(49.4 pA/cm² at 5 V). These properties are critical for capacitors in energy storage systems and high-frequency circuits


4. Ferroelectric Memory and Capacitors

BST thin films exhibit robust ferroelectric polarization due to Ti-O octahedron distortions and hybridization 

between Ti 3d and O 2p orbitals. This enables applications in non-volatile memory (FeRAM) and high-k dielectric 

layers for DRAM capacitors


5. Composite Dielectric Materials

BST composites with polymers (e.g., PMMA) or ceramics are engineered for tailored dielectric properties. For instance, 

BST-PMMA composites reduce dielectric constant while maintaining structural integrity, ideal for flexible electronics 

and low-loss substrates
