Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is a semiconductor material with direct band gap of ~ 1.45 eV, very high optical absorption
(105 cm− 1), and p-type conductivity, making it an ideal material for PV application.
Cadmium telluride is used in a variety of applications, including photovoltaic cells, infrared detectors, and X-ray detectors.
It is also used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices, such as transistors and diodes.
Nanocrystalline CdTe films are of interest because of their potential applications as n-type window layers
in a p–n homojunction thin-film CdTe solar cell, contact to CdS/CdTe solar cells and in electroluminescent display devices.
