Yttrium in YBCO superconductor compounds have combined CuO2 layers in these compounds and have increased the 

critical temperature. However, copper and oxygen has showed superconductor properties when combined with yttrium.

Yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) is a high temperature superconductor with excellent potential for 

long distance power transmission applications as well as other applications involving generation of high magnetic field. 

Among the uniqueness of this material is its perpetual current carrying ability without loss of energy. 

Practical applications of YBCO superconductor depend greatly on the value of the superconducting transition 

temperature (TC) attained by YBCO superconductor upon doping with other external materials.

The applications of YBCO are closely related its superconductivity. 

As superconductivity means conducting electric current without any resistance, the cables and the wires used to 

transport current over long distances or used in electrical machines are one of main industrial applications.
